COMMUNITY EVENT: LEARNING FROM FRANCES GOLDIN ABOUT COOPER SQUARE

Join us in community as we listen to a conversation between Frances Goldin and Lynn Lewis to celebrate Frances’ legacy in our community and the Cooper Square CLT’s 30th Anniversary. 

Initially intended as part of a book project on community organizing, this interview was conducted by organizer and oral historian Lynn Lewis in Frances Goldin’s apartment on January 5th, 2009. 

Given Frances’ longtime leadership in the housing movement and founding role in the Cooper Square Committee and later, the Cooper Square CLT and MHA, this interview is already an invaluable part of the history of Cooper Square. With the permission of Fran’s daughters, Reeni and Sally Goldin, we are grateful to partner with the Housing Justice Oral History Project to release and archive this interview along with other material from the ongoing Cooper Square CLT Oral History Project. 

In addition to the listening session, we will also be documenting community history. Please bring your Cooper Square-related photographs, posters, flyers, shirts, and organizing materials—these treasures will be scanned or photographed for the Cooper Square Archive. We hope to see board members and shareholders come together for a meaningful discussion and shared reflection.
